Collection consists of 191 autograph and typescript letters, postcards and notes exchanged between Philip Larkin and Patricia "Patsy" Avis (Strange Murphy) during her marriage to Colin Strang and later to Richard Murphy; 8 autograph and typescript letters from Larkin to poet/critic Philip Oakes in which are discussed Larkin's works Less Deceived, Whitsun Weddings, High Windows and In the Affirmative by Oakes; 177 photocopy autograph and typescript letters from Larkin to Anthony Thwaite; and 1 telegram and 1 autograph letter from Emily Murphy to Philip Larkin after Patricia Murphy's death in 1977. Following the correspondence are miscellaneous items which include 3 photographs of Larkin, 3 typescript Larkin poems, 3 cigarette tins that once contained some of the Larkin/Murphy letters, and a galley proof of The Selected Letters of Philip Larkin, 1940-1985.
